Domino Server Hangs on Startup with Transaction Logging Enabled After a Normal Shutdown

Technote Number: 1190837

Problem:
This issue was reported to Quality Engineering, and has been addressed in
Domino 6.5.2 Fix Pack 1, Domino 6.5.3 Fix Pack 1, Domino 6.5.4 and Domino 6.0.5.

Excerpt from the Lotus Domino Release 6.5.2 FP1 and 6.5.3 FP1 fix lists
(available at http://www.ibm.com/developerworks/lotus):

Server
SPR# IGEE66ET65 - Fixed a server hang on startup with transaction logging
enabled, and after a normal shutdown. The issue occurred when the compiler
tried to optimize the compiling of the transaction logging section of code. The
error message displayed was "Restart Analysis (0 MB): 100%". This problem has
been fixed in 6.0.5, 6.5.4, 6.5.3 FP1 and 6.5.2 FP1.

Disabling transaction logging should allow the server to come up.
Additionally, disabling transaction logging, deleting the txn's and re-enabling
transaction logging allows new txn's to be created, which should allow the
server to start.
The issue is not caused by corrupt transaction logs, but instead by a compiler
error with 6.5.2 for AIX. Therefore, the issue can eventually recur. Domino
is placing data into the txn file that it cannot properly interpret when
reading back.
